I’ve been mentioning FitMix25 in my posts, but a lot of it is just teasers. I haven’t given any real details, so now is the time!
But first, a bit of background about me to set the stage:
21 years ago, in 1994, I took my very first weight training class in middle school. In 1995, 1 year later, I was already a teachers assistant for a PE class of students 1 year younger than me. I knew right then I was going to become a gym teacher!
In 1999 I graduated from high school and was accepted into the Kinesiology program in college. In 2005 I graduated from university with a Kinesiology degree and a minor in Computer Information Systems. Odd combo yes, but it’s been worth it.
After graduating I moved to Edmonton to live with my dad for a few months. I got a job as a Personal trainer and a year later opened CrossFit Edmonton.
4 years later I sold my share of the business and moved back to Vancouver. I started up Chad Williams Coaching which eventually became AnthroPhysique Online Coaching. Fitness and nutrition coaching online, via computers. (see degree and diploma combo above!)
Now, 5 years later I’m in Guadalajara Mexico, continuing to do what I love: helping people improve their health through exercise. It’s kinda crazy to think that I’ve already had a 10 year career and have owned 3 businesses in this field!
Now, to FitMix25 and the present day:
Taking all of the experience I’ve had over the past 10 years I’ve looked at what works, what doesn’t and what people want. The key issues I see over and over again are:
– it’s hard to find time for exercise
– there is so much conflicting information out there that people aren’t sure what to do
– the rapid emergence of CrossFit created a big world of super fit people and super injured people
– in most training systems people focus on what they like and miss important things they need
– a huge part of this industry is bullshit and unnecessary
Our concept of FitMix25 comes from all of that.
It’s a system of 25 minute classes (time issue) that are focused into 4 different areas of the body: Upper, Abs, Lower and Total body (knowing what to do). The classes are also organized into either a Cardio focused 25 minutes or a Toning/Strength focused 25 minutes. Having this level of diversity allows us to have a huge variety of workouts, that when combined together, create a full system that targets all areas of the body (not missing the important things).
The classes are done in small groups with an instructor to supervise correct technique (less injuries). We use bodyweight exercises, light dumbbells, steps, skipping ropes, medicine balls, hurdles and rings. We’ve stripped away all the useless machines and gimmick devices and get straight down to business (eliminate the bullshit). Trust me, in 25 minutes there’s no time for bullshit!
The great news is that after only 6 months of being open, we are already having great success. Clients love it and are seeing results quickly. We did zero marketing in the first 4.5 months yet word of mouth is brining new people in the doors every day. We’ve also had requests to open in other cities in Mexico!
I’ve taken 21 years of personal experience and 10 years in the industry to create a system that I am incredibly proud of! I know our model will be copied soon too, but all the best stuff does right?!
